ADHD's Effects on Speech

May 16, 2018

May's edition of the Pediatric Speech Therapy Newsletter is here with a look at how Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects a child's speech and language!

ADHD is one of the most common mental health disorders that affect children. It is most commonly diagnosed in school-age children as it can cause issues in the classroom, especially when children are trying to complete school work. While many people know that ADHD can impact multiple behavior patterns in children, the effect of ADHD on communication skills is often overlooked.

Our second story this month covers Voice Disorders and how they can affect speech. While the term "Voice Disorders" may seem broad, it mainly refers to disorders that affect the vocal folds (chords) in your throat that produce the sound for speech.

Here's the full rundown for our May 2018 issue:

  • How ADHD Affects Speech & Language in Children

  • The Impact of Voice Disorders on Speech

  • Ask a Therapist: Development of Pronouns

  • App of the Month: Conversation Therapy

  • Speech Therapy Spotlight: Deborah Esquivel, MA, CCC-SLP
